Our Community Mosaic
We are busy creating a Shanghai mural which will go up in our school. The design incorporates both the contemporary and historical side of Shanghai. We will create our own tiles, break up found objects and cut up existing tiles. The school emblem replaced the characters of Shanghai, and work much better.
More bispoke pieces have been made than originally anticipated.
The scales of the dragon looked more effective if they stuck out...... 1,000 tiles have now been created, and a few more are required.
more images to come....
Previous Community Projects/Murals
My year 10 (year 9 in Australia) NIST students wanted to create a mosaic about their host city, Bangkok. They worked collaboratively to draw, design, create, source, fire, attach and finally grout.....
NIST was lucky enough to engage the Australian Mosaic artists Pamela Irving. The year 6 students designed chldren from all around the world, and the years 7, 9, 10 and 11 students worked collaboratively to 'make the magic happen'...
At Caulfield Grammar School, working with artist in residence Jane Byrne, students created a number of mosiacs to celebrate our connection with China.
To celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the Nanjing campus launch for CGS, Jane Byrne worked with our Elementary students to create a "Melbourne Icons" mosaic. 350 students participated in it's creation, and it was successfully shipped and installed in Nanjing.
